Monick and Nadeau Attend NCAA Conferences

Johnson State College was represented at two National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) events this past month.

Student-Athlete Nicole Monick went to Nashville, Tennessee for the NCAA 2017 Business Convention. At this convention, Monick joined other representatives from schools in Division I, II, and III to discuss and vote on pieces of legislation. Monick also had meetings with the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) and other partner conferences to discuss the proposed legislation and to provide updates on what the national Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is currently working on and trying to promote. "My experience at the business convention was eye opening!" said Monick. "The amount of hard work and care that goes into Division III was very apparent in Nashville. The opinions of Student-Athletes are always important to representatives and I really appreciate that."

Monick is the President of the SAAC at Johnson State, is a national SAAC representative, and is the Captain of the women's tennis team. She is set to graduate in May of 2018 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management.

Graduate Assistant Nicholas Nadeau traveled to the NCAA Headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the NCAA 2017 Emerging Leaders Seminar. Nadeau was one of 220 participants who were selected to attend this event. During the three day conference, Nadeau heard from guest speakers in the collegiate-athletics field and collaborated with many peers in the industry. "It was an amazing experience!" stated Nadeau. "I was able to meet people from all over the country; from Division I, II, and III schools, collegiate athletic conferences, and NCAA staff. It was great to share what I was doing and to learn the differences in a small Division III school, such as Johnson State, compared to an athletic department from a much larger school."

Nadeau is the Graduate Assistant for Athletic Event Management at Johnson State. He graduated from Johnson State in December of 2015 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and is slated to graduate in May of 2018 with a Masters Degree in Education.
