Concussion Policy

Pregnant and Parenting Athletes Policy

The purpose and goal of this policy and procedure is to have an established procedure to provide support to any student athlete whom may find themselves in the position of a pregnancy (planned or unplanned). These policies and procedures are put in place to protect the well-being of our student-athletes, and provide assistance to continue to support our student-athletes on and off their respective playing fields.

The purpose and goal of this policy is to specifically cover participation in intercollegiate athletics and detail accommodations for trans people who attend and participate in athletics at Vermont State University Johnson

 

NCAA Sickle Cell Info

Though it has recently raised alarm in the athletic community, exercising with sickle cell trait is generally safe and with proper awareness and education poses no barriers to outstanding athletic performance.  Most athletes complete their careers without any complications. But it can affect some athletes during periods of intense exercise, when the inherited condition causes red blood cells to warp into stiff and sticky sickle shapes that block blood vessels and deprive vital organs and muscles of oxygen. The trait can affect athletes at all levels, including high school, collegiate, Olympic and professional. Vermont State University Johnson Insurance Policy Explained

All Vermont State University Johnson student athletes are required to have primary health insurance coverage prior to participation in athletics.  Proof of insurance must be submitted to the Athletic Training staff before the student athlete will be permitted to participate in any practice or competition.

In the event that a student-athlete does not have health insurance coverage, the student athlete will be required to accept the college insurance.  All student athletes must either accept the college insurance or certify your existing coverage through the health insurance link in Web Services (located on your portal home page under the Student Billing/Financials link. Coverage dates runs from August 15 to August 14 of the current academic year.

 

All medical costs accrued as a student-athlete at Vermont State University Johnson are the responsibility of the student-athlete.  This applies to cost of emergency care, primary care physician appointments, specialist referrals, diagnostic testing, or surgical costs. 

Vermont State University Johnson has a catastrophic insurance policy in the event of a catastrophic injury.  A catastrophic injury is defined has a severe injury to the brain, spinal cord, or spine and may include skull and spinal fracture that result in permanent or long term disability or death.  In the event of a catastrophic injury, a claim will be filed and payments will be made per the policy once the patient's out of pocket costs have exceeded 25,000 dollars.
