Badgers Drop Opening Game of Vassar College Tip-Off

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Johnson State College men's basketball team fell to Lehman College 101-72 in the first game of the Vassar College Tip-Off on Friday night.

The Badgers drop to 1-1 on the season, while Lehman evens up to 1-1.

1st Half

The lightning jumped out to an early 10-4 lead three minutes into the game. The Badgers battled back, getting the score as close as 20-14 before Lehman went on a 32-14 run to close the half ahead 52-28. Marqwon Wynn (Wilmington, Del.) scored 12 points in the period to lead the Badgers. Much of Wynn's success came from the free throw line, where he made eight of ten.

2nd Half

Rasul Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) carried Johnson through the second half, scoring all 19 of his points in the period. Jackson and the Badgers effort was not enough, however, as they were unable to recover from the first half deficit and fell 101-72.

Johnson Leaders

Wynn and Jackson led Johnson with 19 points apiece. Wynn led the Badgers with three assists and hauled in three rebounds, while Johnson shot 4-8 from 3-point range. Demetrius Slade (Washington, D.C.) led Johnson with a game high seven rebounds.

Lehman Leaders

The Lighting had five scorers in double-digits, with Mylo Mitchell leading the team with 16. Edwin Pasquale and John Brens tied for the game high in assists with seven each.

Stat Breakdown

The Lightning were able to knock down their shots at a high rate, shooting 60% from the field and beyond the arc, compared to Johnson's 38.6% from the field and 31% 3-point percentage. Lehman outrebounded the Badgers 42-27, while narrowly winning the turnover battle 17-15.

The Badgers will face Keuka College, who fell to Vassar College on Friday night, in the consolation game of the tournament at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19th.
