Badgers Take Second Game of Vassar College Tip-Off

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Johnson State College men's basketball team defeated Keuka College 83-75 in their second game of the Vassar College Tip-Off on Saturday afternoon.

The Badgers improve to 2-1 on the season, while Keuka remains winless at 0-3.

1st Half

The teams traded baskets early in the half, with Johnson holding a 14-13 lead just over five minutes in. The Badgers dominated the next seven minutes of play, outscoring the Wolves 20-2 over the stretch. Keuka went on a run of their own, closing out the half outscoring the Badgers 16-8. Kawaun Chavis' (Philadelphia, Pa.) team high twelve points in the half led the Badgers to a 42-31 lead at the break.

2nd Half

Johnson State was able to keep Keuka from making a run at the lead in the second half, never allowing them to get closer than six points. Marqwon Wynn (Wilmington, Del.) and Rasul Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) led Johnson in the period, scoring eleven points each.

Johnson Leaders

Jackson led Johnson with 21 points to go along with five steals. Chavis added 20 points and four more steals, while Wynn and Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Pa.) also scoring in double digits with 16 and 17, respectively. Holl also led all players with seven assists in the contest. Demetrius Slade (Washington, D.C.) led Johnson with a game high nine rebounds.

Keuka Leaders

The Wolves received 15 points apiece from Cliff Stevens and Dylan Doupe. Trevor Powell led Keuka with seven rebounds and four assists.

Stat Breakdown

Keuka had a 58.8% field goal percentage compared to Johnson's 44.6%, but the Badgers were able to get off a higher volume of shots, outshooting the wolves 65-51. The Badgers also converted on their free throw attempts, shooting 72.7% to Keuka's 45.8%. Johnson won the turnover battle, forcing 32 and committing 19.
