Second Half Surge Pushes Badgers to 94-65 Win Over Vermont Tech

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College men's basketball team defeated Vermont Technical College 94-65 in a non-conference game on Tuesday night at Carter Gym.

The Badgers improve to 3-4 on the season, while the Knights fall to 4-6.

1st Half

Vermont Tech jumped out to an early lead, but the Badgers battled back to tie the game at 18 seven minutes into the half. The teams kept even through the remainder of the period, with the Knights taking a 40-37 edge into halftime. Marqwon Wynn (Wilmington, Del.) led the Badgers with 13 points in the half, with Demetrius Slade (Washington, D.C.) collecting five rebounds.

2nd Half

Johnson went on a 21-5 run over the first seven minutes of the second frame to take a 58-45 lead. The Badgers wouldn't look back, and cruised to the 94-65 victory. Wynn added 17 more points in the second half, while Kawaun Chavis (Philadelphia, Pa.) tacked on 13.

Johnson Leaders

Wynn led all scorers with a season high 30 points and added nine rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Chavis added 18 points while bringing in five boards. Slade recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Vermont Tech Leaders

Lewis Holey led the Knights with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Robert Holliday, Jr. added 14 points to go along with eight rebounds.

Stat Breakdown

The Badgers outshot the Knights from the field 47.8% to 42.2% and from beyond the arc 38.7% to 31.8%. Johnson edged VTC in rebounds, collecting 41 to the Knights 37. Johnson was able to force more turnovers by an 18-15 margin, while scoring 29 points off turnovers to Vermont Tech's 13.
