Eagles Edge Past Badgers in NAC Contest

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College men's basketball team fell to Green Mountain College 84-77 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday afternoon.

The Badgers drop to 3-6 (0-3 NAC) on the season, while Green Mountain improves to 4-4 (2-3 NAC)

1st Half

The teams stayed even through the first half, with Green Mountain holding a small lead through the closing minutes of the period. The Eagles took a 36-33 lead into the locker room. Jeyquan Johnson (Harlem, N.Y.) led Johnson off of the bench with eight points, while Kawaun Chavis (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Pa.) added seven each.

2nd Half

Johnson and Green Mountain treaded leads through the second half. The Eagles went on a small run five minutes into the second, taking a 58-50 lead at the 11:48 mark. The Badgers were able to get the lead back down to three in the final minutes, but were unable to finish the comeback and fell 84-77. Chavis held the Badgers close, with 17 points in the half.

Johnson Leaders

Chavis lead Johnson with 24 points and five steals, with Holl tacking on 13. Demetrius Slade (Washington, D.C.) collected a team high seven rebounds.

Green Mountain Leaders

Thomas Brown scored a game high 31 points for the Eagles. Patrick Rittmon added 19 points, while Pierce Weatherspoon pulled in seven rebounds.

Stat Breakdown

Green Mountain outshot Johnson from the field 59.6% to 49.2%, and from three-point range 43.8% to 36.4%. The Eagles held a 37-25 advantage in rebounds, while the Badgers forced 27 turnovers to Green Mountains 19.

Following the holiday break, the Badgers will return to action against Colby-Sawyer at home on January 3rd in a NAC contest set for 5:30 p.m.
