Badgers Push Past UMaine-Farmington in NAC Matchup

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College men's basketball team defeated UMaine-Farmington 84-72 in in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Friday night in Carter Gym.

The Badgers improve to 5-6 on the season and 2-3 in the NAC, while the Beavers fall to 5-6 and 2-3 in conference play.

1st Half

The Badgers started the game on a 12-7 run, before the Beavers pulled back even at 12-12 seven minutes into the half. The team remained close through the remainder of the period, with neither team holding more than a six point lead. Riley Robinson led all scorers in the opening frame with 12 points, while Jeyquan Johnson (Harlem, N.Y.) led the Badger with 10 off the bench.

2nd Half

Things stayed tight in the second half with six lead changes over the first 15 minutes. With five minutes left in the game, Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit a three to make the score 68-65, putting the Badgers up for good. Johnson held UMaine-Farmington down the stretch, taking the 84-72 lead. Issac Witham led UMaine-Farmington with 14 points, while Chavis picked up 14 of his own.

Johnson Leaders

Chavis led Johnson with 21 points, with Jeyquan Johnson adding 20 points and six rebounds. Rasul Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) picked up a game high nine rebounds and tacked on 12 points.

UMaine-Farmington Leaders

Witham led all scorers with 22 points, while Robinson tacked on 18 more. Amir Moss hauled in a team high seven rebounds for the Beavers.

Stat Breakdown

The Badgers shot well from the field, shooting a season high 56.4% compared to 47.5% for UMaine-Farmington. The Badgers were also strong from beyond the arc, shooting 42.9% to 33.3% for the Beavers. Johnson took care of the ball, turning it over just seven times to the Beavers 20. The back and forth contest saw 14 lead changes.
