Gators Down Badgers 97-85

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – The Johnson State College men's basketball team fell to Pine Manor 97-85 in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Badgers drop to 6-7 on the season, while the Gators go to 8-5.

1st Half

Pine Manor bounced out to an early 14-8 lead four minutes in. By the midway point of the half, the Gators had extended their lead to 32-21. Johnson clawed back through the remainder of the period, pulling their deficit down to 47-41 at halftime. Kawaun Chavis (Philadelphia, Pa.) led Johnson in the half with 10 points, with Rasul Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) tacking on nine more.

2nd Half

The Badgers continued to battle early in the second, pulling the score to 58-57 five minutes in. The Gators went on an 18-3 run over the next five minutes to go ahead for good. Johnson's attempts at the lead were held off as they were defeated 97-85. Jackson led Johnson in the second with 17 points.

Johnson Leaders

Jackson led the way for Johnson with 26 points, six rebounds and three steals. Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Pa.) added 17, while Demetrius Slade (Washington, D.C.) picked up seven points, four steals, seven assists and seven rebounds.

Pine Manor Leaders

Tevon Bennett led Pine Manor of the bench with 25 points, with Taverick Roberson tacking on 20 and Ellis Reid 19. Erick Rosario dished out a game high 10 points.

Stat Breakdown

Pine Manor shot 49.3% from the field to Johnson's 39.7%, with both teams shooting 36.4% from beyond the arc. Pine Manor crashed the boards, outrebounding Johnson 52-35. Johnson won the turnover battle, giving up just nine and forcing 14.
