Eagles Slip Past Badgers, 90-87

BANGOR, MAINE – The Johnson State College men's basketball team fell to Husson University 90-87 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Friday night.

The Badgers drop to 6-8 on the season and 3-4 in the NAC, while the Eagles go to 8-4 and 6-1 in the conference.

1st Half

The Badgers jumped out to an early 10-2 lead over the first four minutes of the contest. Husson pulled back even midway through the half, tying the game at 19. The teams traded leads through the rest of the period, with Husson holding a 45-42 lead at the half. Marqwon Wynn (Wilmington, Del.) led the Badgers with nine points in the first half, with Donell Shaw (Washington, D.C.) adding seven off the bench.

2nd Half

The Eagles scored nine unanswered to start the second half to take a 54-42 lead. Johnson clawed back, taking a 73-71 lead with eight minutes left in the game. The teams battled down the stretch, with Husson taking an 88-87 lead with 33 seconds remaining. On Johnson's ensuing possession, Wynn had a layup attempt with five seconds left that was blocked by Justin Martin. Martin hit two free throws on the other end to seal the 90-87 victory. Wynn added 17 in the half, while Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Pa.) put up 11 more.

Johnson Leaders

Wynn posted 26 points to lead the Badgers, picking up three rebounds. Holl added 16 points and four rebounds, while Demetrius Slade (Washington, D.C.) hauled in a team high 11 rebounds.

Husson Leaders

Husson was led by Raheem Anderson off the bench with 31 points and six assists. Martin picked up a double-double with 14 points and 22 rebounds.

Stat Breakdown

Johnson outshot the Eagles 45.7% to 40.3% from the field, while the Eagles held a 20.5% to 16.7% advantage beyond the arc. Husson crashed the boards, collecting 55 to Johnson's 31. Johnson turned the ball over just ten times and forced the Eagles to commit 14. Husson was carried by their bench, outscoring Johnson's second unit 70-18.
