Second Half Surge too Much For Badgers

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College men's basketball team fell to in-state foe Lyndon State College 89-66 in Carter Gym on Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) battle.

The Badgers fall to 7-10 on the season and 4-6 in the NAC while the Hornets improve to 6-9 on the season and 5-5 in the conference.

1st Half

The two teams battled back-and-forth early in the first half until the Badgers were able to go on a 13-0 run to take a 21-13 lead with under 10 minutes to go in period. Lyndon would pull the score to 24-21 with a made free throw from Raymond Monroe, but the Badgers would go on a 10-3 run to push the lead to double-digits. The Hornets would go on a run of their own and took a 37-36 lead at the half. The Badgers were led by Marqwon Wynn (Wilmington, Del.) who had 11 points. Jeyquan Johnson (Harlem, N.Y.) chipped in five points and four rebounds in the half.

 

2nd Half

The Badgers came out of the half sluggish allowing Lyndon to go on a 26-13 run which gave the visitors a 63-49 lead with just over ten minutes to go. Johnson was able to halt the run with a three but Lyndon continued to push, stretching their lead to 29 points, the largest of the game. Johnson answer with 6 points but that was all the Badgers could muster, taking an 89-66 loss. Johnson was led by Wynn who had eight points. Alexander Vetere (Craftsbury, Vt.) contributed six points in the half as well.

 

Johnson Leaders

Wynn led Johnson with 19 points. Demetrius Slade (Washington, D.C.) contributed nine points and four assists while Johnson had eight points and five rebounds for the Badgers

 

Lyndon Leaders

Lyndon saw five players with double-digit point totals. Charles Correa Jr. led Lyndon with 28 points, eight steals and seven rebounds. Monroe chipped in 16 points while Josiah Woodruff and Eric Vargas each had 13 points apiece. Xacier Colbert contributed 11 points for the Hornets.

Stat Breakdown

Johnson was out shot by Lyndon 44.2% to 47.7% from the field and 44.4% to 46.7% from past the arc. The Badgers were out-rebounded 37-30 and turned over the ball 20 times to the Hornets 14.

Johnson will travel to Thomas College on January 27th for a NAC contest, slated to start at 5:30 p.m.
