Eagles Hold Off Badgers, 76-69

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Johnson State College men's basketball team fell to Husson University 76-69 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday afternoon.

The Badgers drop to 8-13 on the season and 5-9 in the NAC, while the Eagles move to 13-6 on the season and 11-2 in the conference.

1st Half

The teams traded baskets in the early going, with the score tied 15-15 at the 11:47 mark. Husson would go on a 13-4 run over the next three minutes to hold a 28-19 lead. Johnson would get the score back as close as 28-24 at the 6:36 mark, but Husson went into the locker room with a 42-32 lead. Raheem Anderson led all scorers in the half with 15 for the Eagles, while Johnson was led by Kawaun Chavis' (Philadelphia, Pa.) 12 points.

2nd Half

Husson held their advantage through the second half, keeping Johnson from taking a run at the lead. Johnson was able to get as close as six in the final minute, but ran out of time and fell 76-69. Mitch Worcester led the Eagles with 10 in the half, while Marqwon Wynn (Wilmington, Del.) paced Johnson with nine.

Johnson Leaders

Wynn was Johnson's leading scorer, putting up 17 points. Chavis picked up 15 more, while Demetrius Slade (Washington, D.C.) added five points, five assists, two steals and a block.

Husson Leaders

Anderson led all scorers with 23 points, while Justin Martin picked up a 12 point, 15 rebound double-double.

Stat Breakdown

Both teams shot well from the field, with Husson holding a 47.3% to 44.9% edge over Johnson. Johnson was better from outside with a 42.1% to 35.0% three-point percentage. Husson outrebounded Johnson 41-26, while the Badgers forced 18 turnovers while committing 12.
