MBB: Terriers Defeat Badgers 69-43

WATERVILLE, ME – The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketball team fell to Thomas College 69-43 in their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon. Johnson falls to 0-9 and 0-4 in the NAC on the season, while Thomas improved to 4-6 and 2-2 in the NAC. 

Johnson was led by sophomore forward Robert Dubose (Philadelphia, PA) for the second straight game with 12 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Winston Jones (Los Angeles, CA) had 10 points and five rebounds for the Badgers.

Thomas' Lovegeurson Fleurine led the Terriers with 15 points on 7-9 shooting and 16 rebounds in the victory. Thomas also received double-digit scoring from Michael Gilman (14) and Zach Mackinnon (11). 

A quick layup and two shots from behind the arc from freshmen Jones and Tyrese Smith (Tamarac, FL) gave the Badgers an early 8-0 lead over the Terriers. The two teams battled and traded baskets before Thomas went on a 13-0 run to gain a 21-12 lead. The Badgers continued to battle against the Terriers but were unable to close the gap, as Thomas stormed out to a 40-23 lead at halftime. 

Despite a well-rounded offensive effort and solid defense from the Badgers in the second half, Johnson was only able to close the gap by one point as Thomas College emerged with a 69-43 victory.

The Terriers edged Johnson as they shot 44.1% from the field and 36.4% from behind the arc, compared to the Badgers' 32.1% and 30.8% respectively. Thomas out-rebounded the Badgers 46-29.

The Badgers will travel to Norwich University on Tuesday, December 11th for a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.
