Mariners Top Badgers 86-67

CASTINE, ME- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketbal team lost on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference action against Maine Maritime Academy by a score of 86-67.

Donell Shaw (Washington, D.C.) led the Badgers with 21 points, seven rebounds, three steals and an assist and Robert Dubose (Philadelphia, PA) added 17 points, five rebounds, five steals and an assist. 

The Mariners scored first and never gave up the lead. At the break the Mariners led 38-22 and controlled the tempo of the game throughout the second half, taking their biggest lead of the afternoon (58-27), with 13:02 remaining. The Badgers battled back with a 21-4 run to close the gap to 62-48 late in the contest, but the Mariners hit back-to-back threes with three minutes to play and cruised to the 86-67 victory.

The Mariners shot 60.4 from the floor, while the Badgers shot 37.9 percent from the floor. Maine Maritime held a 37-28 advantage on the boards but the Badgers were resilent in their efforts forcing the Mariners to turn the ball over 18 times.

The Mariners were led by Nicholas DePatsy and Adam Richardson. Boh players contributed double-doubles.
