George Spanos Commits to Men's Basketball for 2019-2020 Campaign

JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketball team and Head Coach Miles Smith received their most recent commitment for the 2019-2020 season earlier today.

George Spanos comes to Northern Vermont University-Johnson from Garden City, NY. Spanos played his club AAU basketball for Hoop Lyfe AAU Basketball Club and Long Island Lightning AAU.

Spanos intends to pursue a degree in Political Science and History when he arrives at NVU-Johnson. "I wanted to attend a smaller school where everyone knows each other instead of being just another face in a large crowd", said Spanos. "Johnson was the first school to accept me plus Coach Smith made me feel wanted from the very beginning in the recruitment process and was persistent along the way. When I visited the campus and met everyone, I knew where I wanted to go. Growing up, my parents always told me you always go to where you are wanted and welcome".

Spanos is excited to join the Badger family and work to improve his game over the course of his career. "I felt welcome from the first moment I met Coach Smith, the staff and players. I believe the camaraderie among great teammates bonds lifelong friendships. I look forward to building these bonds as a member of the Badger Athletic Family".

The length and size of Spanos will prove to be a benefit for the Badgers next season. "We are excited to add George to the program", said Coach Smith. "His frame is something that you don't see in our league and with the right work ethic and commitment to developing as a player George will eventually be a strong piece to our program".

Spanos averaged fourteen rebounds a game during his most recent season playing in the Metropolitan Greek Orthodox Basketball League. Spanos was named Most Improved Player during the 2017-2018 season.

The Badgers are set to announce more commitments in the near future.
