Jaymes Savage Commits to Badgers Coming Off State Championship Run

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketball team and Head Coach Miles Smith earned a commitment earlier today from Jaymes Savage.

Savage comes to Northern Vermont University-Johnson from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was a member of the Sankofa Freedom Academy boys' varsity basketball team. Savage, a captain of the Sankofa Freedom Academy boys' varsity basketball team has a polished resume on the basketball court winning three 1A City Championships and was also crowned the 1A State Championship. 

Sankofa Freedom Academy netted the PIAA Class A championship with an 83-61 victory over Vincentian Academy. It's the first state title for Sankofa Freedom, which was playing in their first PIAA final. The school is in its tenth year of existence.

Savage intends to pursue a degree in Business Management and is excited for a new atmosphere at NVU-Johnson. "I chose NVU-Johnson because it was a great opportunity for me to get out of my city and experience something new. I needed to get out of my comfort zone and I am going to in the fall while continuing my athletic career". 

Savage brings a toughness and style of leadership to the Badgers that will be impactful right away for the 2019-2020 team. "Jaymes will make an immediate impact in our program", said Head Coach Miles Smith. "He will bring a defensive toughness to our program that is much needed and could potentially be one of the most dynamic and impactful players in our league this upcoming season". 

Coach Smith's coaching style fits the needs of Jaymes Savage perfectly. "I'm very excited to play for Coach Smith. He has a vision and is a great coach that I know will push me to be my best on and off the court".
