George Zelman Commits to Men's Basketball for 2020-2021 Season

JOHNSON, Vt. - The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketball program and Head Coach Miles Smith announced the commitment of George Zelman on Monday morning.

George Zelman a native of Jericho, Vermont and a student-athlete at Mount Mansfield Union High School has signed the necessary paperwork and plans to attend Northern Vermont University-Johnson in the fall of 2020. When arrived at NVU-Johnson, Zelman will pursue a degree in Business.

"I chose NVU-Johnson because I believe the school is the best fit for me academically," said Zelman. "I couldn't be more excited to be a Badger both on and off the court next year."

George Zelman was selected for the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association North/South All-Star Game in his senior season. Because of the Corona virus concerns, the VBCA is following the actions of the VPA, NCAA, NBA, etc. and is cancelling our Senior All Star Game, which was scheduled to be held on March 21 at Windsor High School.

"Our focus was to bring in size and kids who have the ability to shoot the ball for this upcoming class," said Head Coach Miles Smith. "I personally have a strong relationship with George and his family. George has been close to our program for a number of years now and I believe he will be a solid addition to our program as we continue to progress."

Zelman has attended a number of Coach Smith's summer Hoop Camps, and is excited to continue playing for Smith as a Badger. "I've made multiple meaningful friendships within the Badger Athletic family. I feel honored to part of it. I am also very excited to build on the relationship I currently have with Coach Smith."

Zelman is the first commitment for the NVU-Johnson men's basketball program for the upcoming 2020-2021 season. Head Coach Miles Smith plans to announce additional commitments in the near future.
