Badgers Tie for Fifth in First Day of NAC Championship

BANGOR, Maine  – The opening day of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Golf Championship at the Bangor Municipal Golf Course took place this afternoon, as Johnson State tied for fifth place after shooting a team score of 320 (+36).

The Husson Eagles, who have won ten of the last 12 NAC titles, held off a late surge by Salem State, as the Vikings finished the opening round just two strokes back with a score of 291. UMaine-Farmington came home 14 strokes back with a 303, followed by Castleton (310), Johnson State (320) and Maine Maritime (320). MCLA and Green Mountain concluded the first-day standings with respective totals of 337 and 391.

Johnson State saw their own Austin Walters (Grantham, N.H.) tie for 12th place with a score of 76 (+5), followed by Kiley Moody (Wolcott, Vt.) who placed 19th with a score of 79. Also scoring for Johnson were Philip Lyon (South Burlington, Vt.), Colin Compangna (Morrisville, Vt.), and Nick Audet (Morrisville, Vt.)

The second round of the 2016 NAC Championship will get underway on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. when Green Mountain and MCLA tee off first. Those two schools will be followed by Johnson, Maine Maritime and Castleton before UMaine-Farmington, Salem State, and Husson pair up for the final rounds of the day.
