JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College pulled away from a gritty, though undermanned Green Mountain College team on Saturday to pick up a 19-5 North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse win at Minaert Field. The Badgers improve to 4-7, 3-6 NAC while the Eagles stand at 0-10, 0-7 NAC.
Senior Alex Petti (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) (pictured) tied the Johnson State school-record for career goals of 105 by tying the Johnson State school-record for single-game goals with 11 scores on the day. Classmate Justin Nelson (Lakeville, Mass./Bishop Connolly) had a goal and six assists for JSC while senior Justin Connolly (Jeffersonville, Vt./Lamoille) had three goals in the match. Freshman Nash Garceau (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) recorded two goals and three assists and fellow rookie Randy Strand (Flanders, N.J./Roxbury) had a goal and an assist. Freshman Tyler Ask (Bristol, Vt./Mount Abraham) had one goal and freshman Dylan Rutledge (Waterford, Vt./St. Johnsbury) had an assist.
Green Mountain was led by Luke Carey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Beacon School) and his two-goal, one-assist effort. Charles Petrick (Henniker, N.H./John Stark) had two goals and Daniel Fifield (South Royalton, Vt./South Royalton) had a score. Tyler Randolph (Easton, Penn./Wilson Area) had a single assist for GMC.
JSC keeper Zach Jerome (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) made nine stops in the win. Green Mountain's Ezra Ward (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) was outstanding in the cage throughout making 31 saves on the day.
Green Mountain, with only 13 men dressed for the game, was able to hang close at 6-4 midway through the second period. The Badgers closed the half by scoring the final three goals and then pulled away in the second half outscoring the Eagles 10-1 over the final 30 minutes.
Johnson will wrap up their regular-season schedule on Sunday with a non-conference game against SUNY Canton at 1:00 pm. It will be "Senior Day" for five Johnson student-athletes; Justin Connolly, Nate Durick (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington), Nik Holm (Amherst, Mass./Amherst), Justin Nelson, and Alex Petti. Green Mountain will move on to play New England College in their final regular-season game at home on Wednesday.
