JOHNSON, Vt- Johnson State College men's lacrosse ended up on the bad side of a 24-1 men's lacrosse decision on Sunday against visiting Olivet College to open their season. The Badgers stand 0-1 overall and 0-0 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). The Comets improve to 3-1 overall.
Junior Matt Dekens (Johnson, Vt. / Lamoille) scored the lone Johnson goal at the 2:41 mark in the third period. Despite the Badger's 18 shots, they couldn't overcome Olivet's offensive power.
Goalkeeper Zach Jerome (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) made 13 saves for Johnson while Olivet goalie Ryan McGee made 12 stops.
Olivet saw James Collins score eight goals, Cameron Bazin tally seven and Dakota Badder notch five in the win. Collins scored the Comet's first goal just 25 seconds into the first period while Johnson played a man down during a penalty. The Badgers went the rest of the first and the whole second period scoreless, heading into the half behind 15-0. During the second and third periods, the Badgers slowed their opponents pace allowing only 9 goals in two periods.
Joson will host Castleton Saturday the 23rd for a NAC matchup while Olivet will travel to Green Mountain on Tuesday for their next contest.
