Terriers Outscore Badgers 13-5 in Conference Win
Thomas College (1-6, 1-2 NAC) was able to capture their first conference victory of the season, downing Johnson State (0-4, 0-2 NAC) 13-5 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's lacrosse contest held at Colby College. Matt Dekens led the way for the Badgers scoring three times in the in the final quarter.
Johnson State jumped out to an early lead when Matthew Malek found the back of the net but Thomas equalized the score in the final minute of the quarter with a goal from Bryan Ferris on a feed from Caleb Runci.
In the second quarter, the Terriers netted the only two goals in the quarter. Gunnar Shelton ripped a shot past the keeper to make the score 2-1. Six minutes later, Evens would add another tally for the Terriers, giving Thomas the lead 3-1 heading into the half.
Thomas continued to build on the lead with a dominating third period, going on a 7-0 run while holding Johnson to just three shots. Thomas took a 10-1 lead into the fourth.
Johnson looked to make a comeback in the fourth, going on a 4-0 run and closing the gap to five. Thomas would regain the momentum on a goal from Evans and wouldn't look back scoring the last three goals. Johnson doubled their shot total in the fourth, ripping 14 shots after only having 12 heading into the fourth.
Carlos Cardona picked up his collegiate win for the Terriers, stopping six of 11 shots, while his counterpart, Jay Palmisano, stopped eight of 21 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Terriers will be back in action on Monday, April 7th in a conference battle against Lyndon State while Johnson will head to NEC for more NAC action on Monday April 7th at 4:00p.
