The SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team jumped out to a quick 10-4 halftime lead and never looked back on its way to a 12-6 victory against visiting Johnson State College on Thursday.

The Roos (2-3) opened the game scoring the first three goals of the contest as Cam CarterChris Gamble and Trenton Yule found the back of the net within the first five minutes.

Johnson State (0-3) caged their first of the contest midway through the period, but SUNY Canton responded with four of the next five tallies over the final 2:45 of the opening quarter to take a 7-2 lead after one.

SUNY Canton struck for three of the five goals in the second stanza to take a commanding 10-4 lead into intermission. Gamble paced SUNY Canton with four goals and two assists in the opening half, while Yule and Carter caged two each. Kyle Smith dished out two assists.

The hosts continued to control play in a much lower scoring second half as play became more difficult due to the winter mix. The teams combined for two goals each in the final 30 minutes of play.

Andrew Fiske had a strong game in his first game in goal on the season stopping 10 shots in the win. Jay Palmisano made 13 saves for the Badgers.

Devin Gruneisen led all players with seven ground balls, while Tyler Phillips caused a game-high three turnovers. Luke DeGaetano also chipped in with six ground balls.

The men's lacrosse team will put its two game win streak on the line when it visits Medaille College on Saturday at 3 p.m. Johnson will host Husson University on April 2nd.
