MLAX: Johnson Drops Season Opener to Salem St.

SALEM, MASS. – The Johnson State College men's lacrosse team fell to Salem State College 21-1 in their season opener Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Badgers slide to 0-1 on the season while the Vikings move to 1-2.

1st Quarter

The Vikings took an 8-0 lead after one with two goals each from Charlie Bourgeois and Hunter Spencer.

2nd Quarter

Salem added 9 more goals in the second quarter to give the Vikings a 17-0 lead at the half. Dan Xu tallied three goals and added an assist in the quarter.

3rd Quarter

Johnson got on the board early in the third with an unassisted goal from Kyle Picard (Hyde Park, Vt.). Salem would add three goals in the quarter to make it 20-1 going into the fourth.

4th Quarter

The Badgers held the Vikings to one goal in fourth making the final score 21-1 in the host's favor.

Goalkeepers

Chris Schaub earned the win for Salem, not facing a single shot from Johnson. Connor O'Melia gave up the lone Badger goal while saving the only other shot he faced. Patrick Bell (Charlestown, R.I.) took the loss for Johnson, stopping eight of the 29 shots he faced.

 

Stats Breakdown

The Vikings recorded 29 shots on goal to Johnson's two and earned a 23-2 edge in face offs. Salem held a 39-9 advantage in ground balls while the Badgers turned over the ball 29 times to the Vikings 30.

Johnson will travel to Dean College for a non-conference tilt scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
