Vikings Power Past Badgers

SALEM, MA- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's lacrosse team fell in their second game of the season against the Salem State Vikings by a score of 18-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Vikings opened up play early as they scored the first goal of the game at the 14:00 minute mark. The Vikings found their rhythm as they scored back to back goals a few moments later. The Vikings proceeded to call a timeout leading 3-0 over the Badgers. A late attack by the Badgers was unsuccessful as Cesar Ortiz (San Diego, CA) missed a shot wide on goal.  Salem State transitioned for another score concluding the first quarter leading 4-0.

Throughout the second quarter the Vikings continued to attack offensively. Zach Royal, Tyler Morris and Nick Quirk all converted for the Vikings taking a 7-0 lead half way through the second quarter. They closed out the half leading 10-0.

The Vikings capitalized in the second half of action as they finished the game scoring six goals in the third quarter and two goals in the final quarter.

The Badgers were led by Josh Benak (Bethlehem, PA) who scored the Badgers only goal of the contest in the final quarter of regulation off of an extra-man opportunity for the Badgers. The Badgers recorded 18 shots to the Vikings 44 shots.

With the loss the Badgers fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Vikings improve to 1-2.
