Hornets Capitalize in President's Cup Challenge over Badgers.

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's lacrosse team fell to the NVU-Lyndon Hornets by a score of 20-7 in a President's Cup Challenge matchup on Tuesday evening. The Badgers were led by junior Dave Legris (Fairfax, Vt.) with two goals and one assist. Josh Benak (Bethlehem, PA) and Cesar Ortiz (San Diego, CA) each added two goals.

The Hornets set the pace early, building an 8-0 lead entering the second quarter. With the Hornets leading 13-0 and the clock winding down, Benak put Johnson on the board off an assist by Legris to make the score 13-1 at halftime.

After two goals by the Hornets, Legris scored his first goal of the contest off an assist by Ryan Palmisano (Barre, Vt.). Cesar Ortiz connected for a goal less than two minutes later. Benak scored again on a man up opportunity for the Badgers, assisted by Palmisano. The Hornets maintained a 17-4 lead entering the fourth quarter.

The Badgers continued to push the pace in the fourth quarter, opening with a goal by Kyle Picard (Hyde Park, Vt.). After goals by Legris and Ortiz, the Hornets regained control and concluded the fourth quarter with three goals to take a 20-7 win over the Badgers. The Hornets were led by Shea Jones with seven goals and four assists.

With the loss the Badgers fall to 3-21 overall and 2-8  in the North Atlantic Conference. The Hornets improve to 4-16 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
