PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Johnson State College men's soccer saw Cardinal Classic tournament host Plattsburgh State University roll to a 10-0 win on Friday in the season opener for boths teams. The Badgers (0-1, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference) will now face Skidmore College on Saturday at 5:00 pm while the Cardinals will battle Lyndon State College at 7:30 pm.
The Cardinals received two goals each from Nick Parrella (Miller Place, N.Y.), Harvey Azra (Mississauga, Ontario), and Omar Fernandez (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and outshot the Badgers 33-2 in the contest. Both Johnson shots came from the feet of sophomore Keegan Hanlon (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) (pictured).
Johnson's Sam Martin (Essex, Vt./Essex) made nine stops on the night while three Cardinal keepers shared time without recording a save.
Plattsburgh tallied their first goal at 8:26 in the first when Mike Payne (New Hartford, N.Y.) converted a penalty kick. The hosts would take 6-0 lead into halftime after unleashing 21 shots in the first 45 minutes.
