Husson rolls by Johnson

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) loss on Saturday to Husson University as the visiting Eagles improved to 5-3 overall, 2-1 in the NAC and the Badgers dip to 1-10, 0-3 NAC.

Husson raced out to a 3-0 halftime lead behind scores from Stephen Berenyi (Levant, Maine), who scored in the 25th minute, and two goals from Phil Frost (Bangor, Maine), those coming in the 33rd and 36th minute respectively.

Johnson was able to generate some solid scoring opportunities but senior keeper Mason Smith (Houma, La.) turned away a pair of great chances for JSC to preserve the scoreless half.  In all the Eagles earned a 13-6 shot advantage in the first stanza.

Husson continued to apply pressure in the second half and would find pay dirt in the 72nd and 75th minute with Zach Emeigh (Ellsworth, Maine) scoring both goals for the visitors and provide the eventual final score.

JSC keeper Ryan Belen (Northvale, N.J.) (pictured) recorded six saves on the day while Smith made two stops before being relieved by Jay Cuttle (Kittery, Maine) with 15:11 remaining.  Cuttle made one save.

Husson received  assists from Smith for the keeper spot on Berenyi's goal while Jacob Erskine (Sidney, Maine) and Alain Tuyishime (Portland, Maine) helped on the first half Frost scores.  Patrick Van Dessel (Dover, N.H.) and Kyle Hargreaves (Raymond, Maine) picked up assists on Emeigh's second half goals.

Johnson moves on to host Maine Maritime on Sunday at 12:00 pm while Husson will travel east to face Lyndon State College at noon on Sunday as well.
