Chargers hold off Johnson 2-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. - Johnson State College men's soccer suffered their second consecutive one-goal North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road loss on Sunday falling 2-1 at Colby-Sawyer College.  The Badgers sit at 1-14, 0-7 NAC while the Chargers improve to 5-8-2, 4-3 NAC.

Sophomore Chris DiCecca (Wilmington, Mass.) scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 19th minute to put the Chargers up 1-0 early in the match. 

Colby-Sawyer increased its lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute when junior Cooper McNealus (Saxtons River, Vt.) collected a deflection from a Johnson defender and ripped a shot into the left corner of the net from 10 yards out.

Johnson was able to cut the deficit in half in the 78th minute when rookie Brendan Mulhern (Durham, N.H.) beat the Colby-Sawyer keeper to the right side of the net.

Sophomore Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) made one save in the Chargers win while counterpart Sam Martin (Essex, Vt./Essex) (pictured) had 12 stops on the afternoon for Johnson.

Johnson will host Castleton State College on Wednesday at 3:30 pm on their next contest while Colby-Sawyer steps out of conference play to face Middlebury College on Tuesday at 3:30 pm.
