UMF tops Johnson 3-1

JOHNSON, Vt. – Visiting University of Maine-Farmington ended the Johnson State College men's soccer season on Saturday as the visiting Beavers topped JSC 3-1 in North Atlantic Conference action at Minaert Field.  The Badgers end their campaign at 1-16, 0-9 NAC while Farmington improves to 2-14, 1-7 NAC.

UMF received scores from senior Jake Constantine (Woodland, N.J.), freshman Dahir Muktar (Lewiston, Maine), and senior Michael Kelly (Norton, Mass.) while sophomore Matt Potter (Waterville, Maine) and sophomore Luiz Ristow (Joinville, Brazil) each earned assists.

Johnson's single score came courtesy of a converted penalty kick by senior Chandler Halbur (Wilmington, Vt.) (pictured).

Potter sent in a long, arcing pass from a dead ball strike from just inside midfield and Constantine was able to get behind the Johnson defense and beat Johnson keeper Ryan Belen (Northvale, N.J.) from point blank range for the 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.

Muktar's goal in the 53rd minute came via a nifty feed from Ristow who had possession in the middle of field just outside the penalty box and sent a pass to the left side for Muktar who deposited the shot just inside the far post.

Kelly's unassisted effort came when the senior lofted a shot from the right side line and well outside the penalty box over the extended arms of Belen with 32:42 left in the match.

Halbur's conversion of the penalty kick came after freshman Brendan Mulhern (Durham, N.H.) was pulled down inside the box after a nice moved freed him up.

The match ends the regular-season for both teams.  Both teams will be on the outside looking in of the NAC playoff tournament which will begin on Sunday, October 28.
