Curry Blanks Johnson 4-0

Curry College defeated Johnson State 4-0 in men's soccer action on Saturday.  The Badgers are now 0-4, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference while with the win the Colonel's improve to 1-1 overall and 0-0 in conference play.

Curry saw Matt Cotnoir, Darren Smith, Alex Goncalves and Richkaard Verrier tally goals for the Colonels while Cotnior contributed two assists and both Nick Gillman and Johnathan Hurley both chipped in one assist each.

The Colonels started the game strong scoring 24 minutes into the opening frame.  Cotnoir scored his first goal off of a rebound from a blocked shot by Johnson goalkeeper Ryan Belen. Cotnoir's goal would prove to be the only one Curry put away in the first half.

In the second half, Smith wasted no time utilizing a Hurley through ball from the 26 yard line to fire a shot into the lower left corner of the net to put Curry up 2-0. Just 13:14 later, Cotnoir found Goncalves in the center where he was wide open for a shot and then goal giving the Colonels a 3-0 advantage.  Curry kept the pressure on and was able to put up one more from Verrier before the game ended. Curry came out on top posting a 4-0 win.

The Colonels finished with a game total of 27 shots, 14 on net, 17 corner kicks and 15 fouls.  The Badgers totaled seven shots, two on goal, one corner kick and 11 fouls.

Johnson State's senior net minder Ryan Belen made 10 saves in the loss while Curry's goaltender Nick Barber earned the win while making two stops.

Johnson State will host Newbury College on Sunday, September 8 at 3:00 pm.  The Colonels will travel to Lyndon State on Sunday, September 8 for a 1:00 pm kick off.
