Chargers Run Wild Against Badgers

The visiting Chargers traveled to Johnson and escaped with a win over the Badgers Sept. 28 downing the home squad 5-0. The Chargers advance to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play while the Badgers dip to 0-9 on the season and 0-4 in the NAC.

Colby-Sawyer got on the board with a goal in the fifth minute of play. Alex Ortega beat the approaching Badgers goalkeeper Sam Martin one on one and drilled a laser into the back of the net putting the Chargers in the lead 1-0.

The Chargers followed up with a second goal in the 7th minute when Isaac Nichols dribbled into the Badgers defense, crossed the ball in front of Badgers keeper Sam Martin finding teammate Andrew Clothier who finished the play with a goal to the lower left of the net.

In the 49th minute, Colby-Sawyer struck again to extend their lead to 3-0 on a blistering shot from Alex Ortega that found side netting; this marked the second tally on the day by Ortega. Five minutes later, Alex Ortega finished off his hat trick after receiving a cross from teammate Isaac Nichols that gave the Chargers a 4-0 lead only ten minutes into the second stanza.

With just over nineteen minutes remaining in the contest, the Colby-Sawyer offense netted their fifth tally as Evan Dalton chipped the ball over the Badgers defense that resulted in a scoring opportunity by Max Yee, extending the Charger lead to 5-0.

Nick Austin needed to make only one save in the victory, while Johnson St. starting goalie Sam Martin made four saves before being switched out at halftime in favor of Alex Pakatar, who made seven saves in the final stanza.

The Badgers will return to action on Sunday when they host New England College at 12:00pm while the Chargers move on to play Sunday at Lyndon State College for a 1:00pm match.
