Badgers Blanked By Mariners

Nicholas George and Jonathan Reeks each netted a pair of goals for Maine Maritime to spark a 6-0 win over Johnson State in a North Atlantic Conference men's soccer match Saturday. The Mariners improved to 3-1-1 NAC, 5-4 overall while the Badgers fell to 0-5, 0-10.

Maine Maritime struck in the 13th minute when Rob Dauphin found Reeks on a break away score. Jay Madison made it 2-0 in the 30th minute when he netted a rebound shot.

Madison found George two minutes later to give the Mariners a 3-0 lead. Madison's ball found George right in front of the net at 32:59. George found the back of the net again in the 35th minute to give MMA a 4-0 lead. Kyle Haslam passed the ball from the 40-yard line and George did the rest.

 

Reeks' second score came early in the second half when he finished off a rebound in the 46th minute to put the Mariners ahead 5-0. Sam Stearns scored the game's final goal in the 89th minute. Tristan Richards found Stearns with a pass and Stearns buried the ball in the left side.

 

The Mariners' offense fired off 22 shots while their defense allowed just three.

Jesse Perkins earned the win in goal while Ryan Belen, despite nine saves, took the loss for Johnson.

Maine Maritime returns to action Sunday, 2:30 p.m., hosting Lyndon State in a North Atlantic Conference match.
