The Johnson State College men's soccer team battled for a 1-1 double overtime tie against visiting Mitchell College Saturday afternoon at Johnson State College. Johnson State moves to to 2-3-1 overall while Mitchell changes to 3-1-1 the season.
Dominic Caforia, tallied the lone Johnson goal in the second half. For the Mariners, Andrew Nigro put his team on the board.
The Badgers played a smart passing game for the first 39 minutes of play keeping the ball on the outside channels, spreading out Mitchell's squad. Despite their strong defense, Nigro took a one-on-one chance with senior keeper Alex Pakatar and found the back of the net. The Mariners headed into the half with a 1-0 advantage.
Mitchell kept Johnson scoreless for 33 minutes of the second stanza until Caforia capitalized on a Johnson capitalized on a penalty kick. With the score tied, 1-1 the teams started their first of two overtimes. Neither team converted a goal, despite numerous attempts.
Pakatar ended the game with three saves while his counterpart Ramazan Sinani stopped 9 shots for the Mariners.
Johnson State resumes their schedule on Saturday, September 20th with a conference match against Thomas College at 1:00pm.
