Badgers Shutout by Spartans

Johnson State College men's soccer dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Castleton State College Saturday afternoon at Mineart Field.  The Badgers stand 4-7-1 on the year and 2-4 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play while the Spartans advance to 5-6-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference.

For Castleton, Blake Hart led the offense posting a brace while Dameon Young notched his second game winning goal of the season

Castleton struck early in the first half seeing Young net his goal in the 11th minute off of a cross from Owen Fellows. With the Spartans up by one, the Badgers rallied and popped off three shots in 10 minutes. It wouldn't prove to be enough to halt the Spartans though. In the 34th minute, Hart collected a short through ball from Jake Tietgens to pass junior goalkeeper, Alex Pakatar giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead at the half.

Johnson continued to pressure and contain, but were not fast enough to catch Hart in the 82nd minute of play. Hart beat out two Badger defenders to send a beautiful arcing ball into the back of the hosts net to seal the win 3-0 in Castleton's favor.

In goal, Dan Palker needed just three saves to record the fifth win of the season while Pakatar was saddled with the loss despite stopping nine shots.

The Badgers return to action tomorrow at 3:30p for a non-conference match against Plymouth St while Castleton will host New England College on Tuesday afternoon for a 6:30pm game under the lights.
