Balanced Attack Leads Canton to 6-1 Win Over Badgers

Johnson State men's soccer dropped a 6-1 non-conference match to visiting SUNY Canton on Sunday afternoon at Minaert Field. With the loss, the Badgers drop to 2-6 on the year and remain 1-2 in North Atlantic Conference play while the Roos advance their record to 2-7 overall.

The visitors saw goals from Hunter Mowery, Nick Magliano, Maurizio Paniconi, Tyler Gallagher, Jr Edward Malinoski and Devin Gruneisen. For the Badgers, Richie Perez scored the lone goal.

Both Canton and Badgers started evenly each getting good looks at each other but weren't able to convert. Johnson held off Canton as momentum began to build in the middle of the opening stanza, until a quick restart from Canton after a Johnson yellow card on Dominic Caforia turned into a scoring opportunity for Mowrey. With the Roos on the board, the goals started to come quickly. Magliano took a chance in front of an open net and passed junior goalie, Berkan Akgul on the carpet. Canton held its 2-0 advantage through the end of the first half.

In the final period, Canton picked up where it left off. Early pressure resulted in a Canton goal from Paniconi after Johnson's John Folsom made an impressive defensive save for goalie Alex Pakatar. With the visitors up 3-0, the shots came harder and faster from the Roos' offense.  The next three goals came within three minutes of each other to seal the win for the Badgers. Perez, fighting through until the end took a chance on a long pass and found the back of the net to put Johnson on the board. The whistles blew with the score final at 6-1, advantage Canton.

Canton outshot Johnson State 31-16 but finished even 4-4 in corners. Roos' goal tender Patrick Anunziatta made four saves in 90 minutes of play while Akgul made eight saves and Pakatar stopped four shots for the Badgers.

Johnson returns to action on Saturday for a 6:30pm game at Husson while Canton will travel to Paul Smith's for a mid-week game on Wednesday.
