Pair of Hat-Tricks Surge Badgers Past Wheelock in Opener

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College men's soccer team opened the season with an 8-0 victory over Wheelock College in a non-conference game on Thursday afternoon at Minaert Field. Dominic Caforia (Waterbury, Vt.) and Patrick Miller (Webster, N.Y.) each scored hat-tricks in the winning effort.

Johnson starts the season with a 1-0 record, while Wheelock falls to 0-1.

SCORING

1ST Half: - Caforia scored a pair of goals, both off of long through balls, to give the Badgers a 2-0 lead at the half.

2nd Half: Johnson State exploded out of the gates in the second half, scoring five goals in a ten-minute stretch. Richie Perez (Belmont, N.H.), Dylan Pipe (Georgia, Vt.), Miller, and Caforia all scored over the scoring spree. Miller added his third with ten minutes to go to bring the final score to 8-0.

GOALKEEPERS

Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt.) played in net for the first half and earned the win. Andrew Baker (Carthage, N.Y.) took over in the second half to complete the shutout. Gary Broad was given the loss in goal for Wheelock.

NEXT UP

The Badgers host a pair of non-conference games this weekend. On Saturday, Curry comes to town for a 1:00 PM showdown. Newbury is slated to visit on Sunday for a 12:00 PM contest.
