Badgers Dropped by Union in Second Day of CIAO Classic

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. – The Johnson State College men's soccer team fell to MCLA 8-0 in the second day of the CIAO Classic on Sunday morning.

The Badgers drop to 1-4 overall, while Union improves to 4-1.

SCORING

1st Half: - Union's Ethan Strauss got the scoring started in the 12th minute when he got just enough of a header off a John Fontaine corner kick for an early 1-0 lead.  In the 21st minute, Fontaine was taken down in the box and he calmly converted the penalty kick making it 2-0 in favor of Union. Three minutes later, Yasin Dombayci would find the back of the net with Sal Lopez earning the assist.  Jeremy Conn would complete the first half scoring in the 34th minute and Union took the 4-0 lead into halftime. 

2nd Half: Union quickly added to the lead in the opening minutes of the second half when Pedram Malakian and Connor Horan tallied in the first five minutes to make it 6-0.  Vincent Oliveto and Nicholas DeLuca notched the final goals for Union to bring the final score to 8-0.

GOALKEEPERS

Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt.) started in net and stopped nine of 17 shots while being tagged with the loss for Johnson. Jonathan Graziosi earned the win for Union.

The Badgers will visit Worcester State on Wednesday, September 14th at 4:00 PM in their final tune-up before North Atlantic Conference play begins.
