Badgers Fall to Mariners on Senior Day

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College men's soccer team fell to Maine Maritime Academy 3-1 in a North Atlantic Conference game on Sunday afternoon at Minaert Field.

The Badgers overall record drops to 2-8 on the season and 1-3 in the NAC. MMA improves to 4-4-1 on the year and 3-1 in the conference.

SCORING

1st Half: Matthew Caron scored two quick goals in the first ten minutes of the contest to give the visitors a 2-0 lead going into the break.

2nd Half: Dominic Caforia (Waterbury, Vt.) cut the Mariner lead in half in the 62nd minute on a goal from the top of the box, assisted by Evan Daigneault. Maine Maritime Academy answered back eight minutes later on a goal by Liam Welch. The Badgers were unable to convert strong offensive pressure into scoring opportunities, ending the game at 3-1.

GOALKEEPING

Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt.) stopped five of eight Mariner shows and was tagged with the loss. Marshall Spear allowed one goal on seven shots to earn the victory.

SENIOR CELEBRATION

Seniors Richie Perez (Belmont, N.H.) and Colin Dalmata (Johnstown, N.Y.), as well as Corey Nystrom (Brookline, Vt.), who will be graduating with an associate's degree in the spring, were recognized prior to the match for playing in one of their final home matched at Minaert Field.
