MSOC: Johnson Takes 5-2 Win in Season Opener

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College men's soccer team opened the season with a 5-2 victory over Vermont Technical College on Friday afternoon at Minaert Field. Joseph Holloway (Essex County, England) led the Badgers with two goals and an assist in the win.

SCORING

1ST Half: - Dominic Caforia (Waterbury, Vt.) assisted Holloway with the first goal of the game in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Caforia tallied a goal of his own in the 29th minute before Vermont Tech answered with a goal by Daniel Bordner at the end of the half.

2nd Half: Kyle Verchereau (Berlin, Vt.) scored 13 minutes into the second half with a goal assisted by Holloway. Alexander Vetere (Craftsbury, Vt.) followed up with another goal nine minutes later. Holloway tacked on another goal before Vermont Tech added one more to make the final score 5-2 in the Badgers favor.

GOALKEEPERS

Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt., 1-0) picked up the win with his 1st half performance, saving two out of three shots for the Badgers. Marcus Holmes (Johnson, Vt.) suited up for Johnson in the second half and saved one of two shots he faced. Scott Durkee (0-1) took the loss, giving up five goals on 14 shots for the Knights.

The Badgers are back in action on Sunday, September 3rd when they take on UMaine-Presque Isle in a non-conference tilt, slated to start at 12:00 p.m. at Minaert Field.
