MSOC: Johnson Overpowers Lyndon to Earn 5-3 Victory

BENNINGTON, Vt — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's soccer team took home a 5-3 victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Sunday afternoon at Southern Vermont College. Junior Rob Buonanno (Wolcott, Vt) led the way for the Badgers with two goals in the win. The Badgers' victory provides Johnson with an edge over Lyndon in the inaugural President's Cup Challenge.

SCORING
1st Half: Lyndon (0-4-0) found the back of the net in the 11th minute, but Buonnano answered for Johnson (3-1-0) just one minute later with a goal of his own off of a long pass by Joseph Holloway (Essex County, England). Lyndon's William Martin scored his second goal of the game on the 15th minute to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead over Johnson at the end of the first half.

2nd Half: Freshmen Tristan Salgado (Essex, Vt) scored his first goal of the season to start the second half, assisted by Daniel Arriola (Romeoville, IL). 11 minutes later, Arriola tallied his fourth goal of the season after a beautiful cross from the left by sophomore Jarod Croteau (Loudonville, NY). The Badgers continued their scoring frenzy in the 70th minute as sophomore Tyler Cirillo (Colchester, Vt) launched a shot from the right hand side. Buonnano recorded his second goal of the match just five minutes later as he lofted the shot over Lyndon's Dennis Farnham III to give the Badgers a 5-2 lead. Lyndon's William Martin earned his third goal of the match 22 seconds later for the final goal of the game, giving a Badgers a 5-3 victory over the Hornets. 

GOALKEEPERS
Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt) picked up the win, saving 2 shots for the Badgers. Lyndon's Dennis Farnham III took the loss, giving up five goals on 12 shots by Johnson.
