Men's Soccer Improves to 4-1

POULTNEY, Vt. — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's soccer team powered past Green Mountain College 4-1 in their non-conference matchup at Green Mountain on Thursday afternoon. 

SCORING

1st Half: The Badgers had many close calls in the first half, but it was freshman Wyatt Moberg (Acton, MA) who put Johnson up 1-0 over Green Mountain with 17 minutes left to play in the half. Arthur Clayton (Lyme, NH) tallied the assist on Moberg's first goal of the season.

2nd Half: Johnson's scoring frenzy began in the 61st minute as junior Rob Buonanno (Wolcott, Vt) found the back of the net off of Clayton's second assist of the game. Daniel Arriola (Romeoville, IL) scored his fifth goal of the season off a header, assisted by Spencer Marquis (Milton, Vt) to put the Badgers up 3-0. Senior John Folsom powered in a fourth goal for Johnson just one minute later to extend the lead to 4-0. Cameron Book put Green Mountain on the board in the 84th minute to make the final score 4-1 in favor of the Badgers.

With the win this afternoon the Badgers Head Coach Shane Bufano is tied for second place in all time coaching victories since joining the NCAA, collecting the win against his alma mater.

GOALKEEPERS

Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt) takes the win for the Badgers, making four saves on the day.  Ryan Willette also made 1 save for the Badgers. Green Mountain's Sawyer Levy made seven saves on 11 shots by Johnson.

The Badgers will open up conference play when they take on UMaine-Presque Isle on Saturday, September 15th at 3:30 p.m. at Minaert Field.
