MSOC: Johnson Defeated by SUNY Canton in NAC Quarterfinals

JOHNSON, VT — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's soccer team was eliminated from the North Atlantic Conference tournament by SUNY Canton in a 5-0 defeat.The Badgers ended the season with a 10-7 overall record and 4-3 record in the NAC.

SCORING

1st Half: Both teams battled against snowy and slippery conditions but it was Canton's Austin Brault who powered in a shot to give the Kangaroos a 1-0 lead with under 15 left to play in the first half. In the 39th minute, Kevin Velasquez passed to Kyle Smith who found the back of the net. Three minutes later, the Kangaroos went up 3-0 after a goal by Josh Geller.

2nd Half: Canton's Smith connected for a second goal in the 54th minute off another assist by Velasquez. Edward Malinoski Jr. rounded out scoring for the Kangaroos with a goal in the 67th minute to give SUNY Canton a 5-0 win over Johnson.

Senior Gerrit Lane (Moretown, VT) made six saves on 11 attempts by the Kangaroos. SUNY Canton's Mouhammed Thiam earned the shutout win, making two saves on two attempts by Johnson.
