Badgers Lose Opening Game in NVU Invitational

JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University men's soccer program opened the 2019 season Friday afternoon as they traveled to NVU-Lyndon to face off against Fisher College. A strong start for Fisher exceled them to a 2-1 win over the Badgers.

The Badgers controlled most of the first half and there was physical play throughout most of the contest. The Badgers outshot Fisher 12-10 but Fisher capitalized over the Badgers in the first half as Leonardo Mildor scored the first goal of the afternoon on an assist by Andree Molina. Shortly after the Badgers went into halftime trailing 1-0.

A quick turnaround in the beginning of the second half for the Badgers allowed them to attack the Fisher defense and score a goal of their own. Aibek Allan Bijanov scored an unassisted goal in the 54thminute as the Badgers tied the contest at one goal apiece.

It wasn't until the 66thminute that Fisher had a run of their own as Jonathan Collins scored off an assist from Andree Molina. Fisher eventually closed the game winning by a score of 2-1. 

Zach Blaser controlled the goal for the Badgers for the entire contest earning 4 saves.

With the loss the Badgers drop to 0-1 on the season as they are scheduled to play Vermont Technical College to round out the NVU Invitational on Saturday, August 31 at 12:00pm.
