Badgers Blanked By Mariners in NAC Matchup

CASTINE, MAINE — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's soccer team dropped a North Atlantic Conference match at Maine Maritime on Saturday afternoon. Four second-half goals by the Mariners secured their 5-0 defeat over the Badgers to improve to 7-3-1 overall. With the loss, Johnson moves to 6-5-1 overall and 2-3 in NAC play. 

SCORING

1st Half: The opening minutes of the match were back and forth as both teams battled for possession. The Mariners' Evan Backus found the back of the net off a corner kick by Matt Caron to give a 1-0 edge over the Badgers. Shots by Robert Buonanno, Marquiss Cruz, and Collin Campbell were stopped by the Mariners to maintain their 1-0 advantage entering the second half.

2nd Half: Backus' second goal of the day ignited the Mariners in the 57th minute off a second assist by Matt Caron. Caron connected on a breakaway opportunity five minutes later to extend their lead to 3-0. Dalton Moore chipped in two goals of his own in the 70th and 71st minute to secure the 5-0 win for Maine Maritime.
