Omar Rodriquez Commits to Men's Soccer for 2020 Campaign

JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's soccer program and Head Coach Shane Bufano received a commitment from Omar Rodriquez earlier this week.

Rodriquez comes to Northern Vermont University-Johnson from the Pacific Northwest and the state of Washington. A native of Quincy, Washington, Rodriquez has competed on the club circuit for many premier and travel clubs in his region. Omar spent some years with the 2002 PSPL Surf Academy in the Seattle area. In addition, he was part of Wenatachee Valley United linked with Quincy United in his hometown. He has also spent time training with Puget Sound FC and had an invite to the Colorado Rapids U17 Academy tryout camp.

A member of the boys' varsity soccer program at Quincy High School where the soccer season is played during the spring. As a sophomore, Rodriquez helped the team qualify for playoffs as the 5 seed in the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC). Omar's Jackrabbits will have their season opener on March 14 against Manson High School.

When arrived at Northern Vermont University-Johnson Rodriquez plans to pursue a degree in Sport Management. "NVU-Johnson has an up and coming Sport Management program and I look forward to pursuing my degree in a path that I love", said Rodriquez. "The best part of being a student-athlete at NVU-Johnson is the opportunity to continue playing the game I love the most which is soccer and helping the team compete at a high level". 

"Omar will add some much-needed depth to our defensive unit," said Bufano. "Coming from the talent rich Pacific Northwest his experience will prove to be valuable even as a first-year player.  We look forward to seeing him contribute positively next season".

The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's soccer program and head coach Shane Bufano plan to announce additional commitments in the near future.
