Makanaka Chikava Commits to Men's Soccer for 2020 Season

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's soccer team and Head Coach Shane Bufano announced an additional commitment for the upcoming 2020 campaign.

Makanaka Chikava has signed the necessary paperwork and has committed to Northern Vermont University-Johnson for the fall of 2020. A native of Zimbabwe, Chikava attended Hazen High School in Renton, Washington and competed for two years at the Varsity level. A defensive midfielder, who primarily plays in the center, this past season, Chikava recorded 3 goals, 6 assists and 12 points. In 2019, his high school team won the District Championship and advanced to the Washington State 4A Boys Soccer Championships where they fell to Jackson HS. 

On the club scene, Chikava played in his home continent for Randburg FC located in South Africa. In the states, he has competed for Newport FC out of Bellevue, Washington and has also played in the North Puget Sound League.  Currently he is playing for the Pateadores Academy out of Washington.

"Makanaka will play a great role with our squad next year as a versatile player," said Bufano. "He has the ability to play in the central part of the field in the midfield or on defense.  He is calm and technical player with great vision. I look forward to watch his growth throughout the course of the season."

Makanaka Chikava is undecided on his major when he arrives to campus in the fall. Head Coach Shane Bufano plans to announce additional commitments for the 2020 season in the near future.
