Men's Soccer Announces the Commitment of Hunter Castro

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's soccer program and Head Coach Shane Bufano have tabbed an additional commitment for the 2020 season.

Hunter Castro has signed the necessary paperwork and plans to attend NVU-Johnson in the fall of 2020. Castro adds another 2020 recruiting class addition to the Badgers from the Sunshine State.

Castro will arrive at NVU-Johnson after competing for teams who had great success in his high school and club careers respectively.  In high school, Hunter lettered for McKeel Academy of Technology in Lakeland, FL. Castro won back to back FHSAA District 4A-12 Championships.  In his junior year, the McKeel Academy Wildcats had a fantastic campaign with an 11-4-2 record (9-2-1 league).  In the following season, the group finished 7-7-3 in repeating as District 4A-12 champions. During his senior campaign, Hunter contributed in the midfield with 2 goals, 3 assists and 7 points.  On the club circuit, he has played several years with North Lakeland United.  His NL United 01 Boys team has been a perennial contender in the leagues they compete in such as the Greater Central Florida Youth Soccer League (GCFYSL) and the United Soccer Association (USA) around the Tampa area.  In the fall of 2018, Hunter's NL United 01 Boys, won their U19 Boys Division of the GCFYSL and followed up in the 2019 fall season with a second-place finish.  That same team had gotten off to a great start in the USA League in the spring of 2020 with a 5-2-2 record before being cut short due to the Coronavirus.

Castro will provide great depth to a solid midfield core for the Badgers in the future. When arrived at NVU-Johnson Castro plans to pursue a degree in Business with interest in the sports management track. "I chose NVU due to it being a uniquely different experience for college and I look forward to seeing what Northern Vermont University has to offer," said Castro.

Head Coach Shane Bufano and the NVU-Johnson men's soccer program plans to announce additional commitments in the near future.
