Cadets Sweep Badgers

The Norwich University men's tennis team turned in a dominating performance on Tuesday afternoon against Johnson State, sweeping the Badgers 9-0 in non-conference action at Shapiro Field House.

The Cadets (2-0, 0-0 GNAC North) dropped just three games in the entire match as they stayed perfect in 2014 after opening the season with a 5-4 win over Castleton on March 5.

Norwich swept all three doubles matches 8-0 and then continued to thrive off the momentum in the singles matches, sweeping all six of those as well.

Junior Ryan Grindle and senior Christian Hoskey teamed to take first doubles over Cole Hennessey and Cory Chase. Grindle then downed Hennesey 6-1, 6-0 at first singles, while Hoskey beat Chase 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Senior co-captain Joe Dvorak and freshman Ian Hyte combined to take second doubles against Greg Davis and Kemal Cross. Hyte then downed Alex Pakatar 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Dvorak beat Davis 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Jay Carter and Patrick Ogden  took third doubles over Alex Harcourt and Matthew Miller. Carter beat Zach Baughn 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles, while Ogden downed Harris Shapiro 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

Johnson State fell to 1-1 on the season after the Badgers opened the year with a 6-3 victory over Green Mountain College this past Saturday.

Norwich returns to action on Thursday, March 20 when it hosts Lyndon State at 3 p.m. at Shapiro Field House.
