Green Mountain College swept three doubles matches and then took five of six singles pairings against Johnson State College en route to an 8-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory on Saturday afternoon at the Vermont Sport and Fitness Club.
Green Mountain's Connor Braden and Nate Berner-Tobin paired together in the top doubles slot to earn an 8-1 win over the Badgers' duo of Gerrit Lane and Corey Chase. Braden and Berner-Tobin then each went on to earn victories in their first and second flight singles matches, respectively. Braden bested Lane 6-1, 6-2, while Berner-Tobin edged by Cole Hennessy 6-4, 6-2 in straight sets.
The Eagles second flight doubles pairing of Jack Hepburn and Grey McCampbell shutout opponents Hennessy and Alex Pakatar, 8-0, to earn the duo's fourth doubles victory of the season. Hepburn continued on to blank Chase in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 while McCampbell powered past Zach Baughn 6-1, 6-0.
GMC's Truman Cressey and Jack Tiernan claimed the Eagles' third doubles match with an 8-3 win over the Badgers' partners Baughn and Nihad Basic. Cressey then moved on to blank Pakatar in fourth flight singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Johnson's Basic demonstrated great determination in sixth flight singles as he outlasted Tiernan in a marathon match, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7.
Green Mountain (4-0, 3-0 NAC) will gear up for a match against cross town rivalry Castleton on Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. while Johnson (0-6, 0-3 NAC) will next host Western New England on Thursday at 4 pm
