Badgers Best Wheelock, 6-3, for First Win of Season

DORCHESTER, MASS. – The Johnson State College men's tennis team defeated Wheelock 6-3 on Sunday in a non-conference match.

The Badgers improve to 1-1 while the Wildcats move to 0-3.

Doubles

Johnson State took two of three doubles matches, with their lone loss coming in first singles, where Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt.) and Richie Perez (Belmont, N.H.) dropped an 8-2 decision. Alex Harcourt (Colton, N.Y.) and Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Pa.) took No. 2 doubles 8-4, while Brady Rainville (Danville, Vt.) and Evan Daigneault (Newfane, Vt.) were victorious in third doubles, 8-2.

Singles

The Badgers went 4-2 in singles play to clinch the match. Lane dropped a closely contested first set 7-7 before dropping the second set 6-2 in No. 1 singles. Harcourt went down in second singles 6-2, 6-0. The Badgers were strong in the three through six positions, including Perez taking third singles 6-1, 7-5.

Rainville picked up a 6-2, 6-1 fourth singles match, while Matthew Fogg (Morrisville, Vt.) took straight 6-3 sets in No. 5 singles. Holl closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win in sixth singles.
