Green Mountain Downs Johnson, 7-2

STOWE, VT. – The Johnson State College men's tennis team fell to Green Mountain College 7-2 on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match at Top Notch.

The Badgers go to 1-3 on the season while the Eagles move to 3-1.

Doubles

The Eagles took two of the three doubles matches, with the Badgers pair of Alex Harcourt (Colton, N.Y.) and Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Pa.) taking second doubles over Eric Wade and Pierce Caldwell, 8-5. Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt.) and Richie Perez (Belmont, N.H.) were bested by Truman Cressey and Kei  Sako in No. 1 doubles, 8-4. Brady Rainville (Danville, Vt.) and Evan Daigneault (Newfane, Vt.) dropped third doubles to Javier Lugris and Dakoata Dodson, 8-3.

Singles

Green Mountain won five of six singles matches, which were all played as pro sets. Cressey held off Lane in first singles 8-3, while Sako defeated Harcourt 8-3 in No. 2 singles. Perez won a hard fought, back-and-forth third singles match 9-7 over Wade.

Caldwell took a competitive No. 4 singles match over Rainville, 8-5. Lugris defeated Holl in fifth singles 8-1, while Daisuke Kon took No. 6 singles 8-0.
